First Day Hike on La Chua Trail

Start the new year off with a hike at Paynes Prairie.  Join a park ranger on a guided walk on La Chua Trail, an excellent trail for viewing wildlife and learning about the state park.  Meet in the La Chua Trail parking lot, located in Gainesville at the north entrance to the park, by 9:00am.  The ranger will be waiting at the trailhead by the kiosk.  The hike is an out-and-back route totaling approximately 3 miles round trip, and may take between 2 and 3 hours.  We will hike at an easy pace and allow time for wildlife viewing.  The first portion of the trail is paved sidewalk leading to a wooden boardwalk; the rest of the trail is flat and grassy.  You are advised to check current weather conditions and dress appropriately for hiking in an open environment on a natural trail with little to no shade.

Park Admission at the La Chua Trail parking lot is $4 per vehicle, or free with active Florida Park Service annual pass.
