About Dominick Martino

"I was born at Coney Island Hospital, Brooklyn, New York 1940. At the age of six years old I watched my father take pictures with his Voigtlander camera. In his darkroom with homemade equipment I helped him process the photographs. Over the years this was an inspiration to me.

I attended the New York Institute of photography. In 1962 I became a wedding photographer on the weekends, and a crime photographer during the week. In 1972 I became a photojournalist for a communications news group in New Jersey. For 15 years I witnessed and captured with my lens the diversity of life's experiences.

In 1988 I moved to Pennsylvania. For a creative outlet for my photgraphic work, I became a member of the Monroe County Arts council and a member of the ARTSPACE gallery in Stroudsberg.

In September 2003 I left Pennsylvania and headed south settling in Gainesville, Florida. I became a member of the Gainesville Fine Arts Association. Here I have started my life over again as a nature photographer at Paynes Prairie Preserve State park. Paynes Prairie is a 21,000 acre preserve that is recognized for it's unique biological and geological features. It is one of only 600 national natural landmarks nationwide, and this is where I spend most of my time as a park volunteer photographer. My photographs of wildlife, flora, and natural wonders are used for interpretive programs and displays throughout the preserve.

Photographing nature and wildlife requires a lot of time and patience. My goal is to share the wonderful experience with others through my lens. When you slow down and open your eyes and ears, nature puts on quite a show."
